Both tools help retain G Suite data and export it offline, but have no recovery capabilities to restore data back to G Suite. The Google tools that help backup G Suite user data are Google Vault (archiving & e-discovery add-on) and Google Takeout (free built-in tool that allows manual offline data export). Because the applications are hosted in the cloud, backup operations have no impact on the local network and have no requirements for local storage capacity/network bandwidth. The tools provide fully managed cloud backup service that includes vendor-hosted backup management application and air-gapped cloud storage. It is the largest type of G Suite backups and the focus of this post. There are 20+ G Suite backup tools on the market, including 7 cloud-based solutions which are the focus of this review 1. This section provides a short overview of other types of solutions in order to present a more complete picture. In this blog post we focus cloud-based backup services. Important Spanning limitations include the automated backup frequency limited to 1x per day and only a single backup storage region (USA) which can be unacceptable for GDPR-compliant organizations. However, Spanning backup and restore speeds were 2x+ slower than Backupify and worse than most other solutions. It showed good backup a success rate and its feature set is mature and comparable with Backupify. See the Backupify section below for a more detailed description of the issue. The service in some cases skips Drive files during backup runs, and yet it reports such incomplete backups as successful as long as at least one file in the backup run is backed up. It features a detailed audit log, admin roles, a reporting module and 3x per day automated GSuite back up.īackupify's main drawback, in addition to the low success rate, is the "silent" Google Drive and Shared Drive backup errors. However its backup success rate and overall reliability was noticeably lower than most other solutions. The description of Afi service is kept to the minimum in this article and if you'd like to learn more, check this Google Cloud documentation about Afi Google Workspace backup.īackupify achieved #1 rank thanks to the mature feature set and fast performance. See the vendor details & company profiles at the end of this post for additional information.Īfi itself develops a cloud G Suite (Google Workspace) backup, and this summary is based on our internal competitive study and benchmarking performed in partnership with our managed service provider partners who used multiple backups in the course of their business. This information is based on public sources as well as interviews with Afi partners & customers. In addition to the performance metrics, the tools were evaluated based on the vendor background, company size and history. Each solution was assigned a (somewhat subjective) grade reflecting the adequacy of backup, restore, management and reporting features. Measured as the average restore speed for one G Suite user backup with 4 GB of data in Gmail and 15 GB in Google Drive. During the first backup all protected data has to be pulled from Google Workspace accounts, which takes more time to execute compared to subsequent "incremental" backups which only need to sync data changes (increments) since the last backup. The average speed of the initial (first) backup. It is calculated as the number of successful backup runs divided by the total backup runs. It takes into account all Google Drive and G Suite Gmail backup runs during the 2 test weeks. In order to compare the solutions we summaried these four key measures for each solution: The following recovery benchmarks were then calculated for each solution: number of total backup jobs, how many of them failed and how many succeeded.įinally, Google Drive and Google Workspace (G Suite) user email backups were restored (to the same test domain) to measure the speed and accuracy of recovery. The backup tools performed automated (scheduled) backups of the entire test domain for 2 weeks. The test domain had 2 TB in total storage across all users and included a representative set of files and emails: large 10GB+ media files, large number of small text files (source code) as well as native Google Workspace (G Suite) files such as documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Each G Suite (Google Workspace) backup tool included in the review was installed on a test domain with 80 users and 20 Shared (Team) Drives by one of Afi managed service provider partners.

The trailer is well constructed, which should draw a number of positive responses.Ĭommentary: A great trailer comes with a pathetic poster. Plot Summary: A married fisherman must reconcile his intense emotions towards his gay lover in a small Peruvian fishing community where such things are not looked highly upon.Ĭommentary: The trailer does a great job not over-doing the gay romance aspect of the film, preferring to present things subtly. Oscar Chances: We have a very full boat for this year’s Oscars, so I’m not expecting something so optimistic to beat out the more devastating issues that will face Oscar voters. And that’s something that may appeal to more than just a handful of people. It doesn’t look like it gives all the answers, but it appears to be well researched and as if it will provide several wonderful suggestions.Ĭommentary: While I’m not a fan of the “hippy” style of poster design, it does somewhat evoke the sense of enlightenment that that countercultural movement often sought. Plot Summary: A documentary cataloguing various thoughts on how to move the world forward in a cultural, social and economic revolution beginning in 2012.Ĭommentary: The trailer says it all by saying this is a documentary that has an optimistic approach to the “end of the world” prophecies being discussed regularly by doomsayers. The new posters are for Harry Potter (#21) and Black Swan (#2-#5). The new trailers are for Drive Angry 3D, The Last Play at Shea, 2012: Time for Change and Undertow. It’s a vast Friday update (well, vast is a pretty verbose word for it) with four new trailers and five new posters. This feature makes silent recording more flexible. We included independent bypass switches for both the cab sim and EQ. What you get is your pure tone in any environment. You can send your tone to front of house or to a monitoring system free of mic bleed or unwanted noise typical in traditional mic setups. To minimize uncertainty, we included a cab sim (4×12 closed-back) with a DI (XLR) output jack. We noticed that many guitar players perform in a variety of unpredictable venues. After listening to our customers and consulting with many of the biggest names in the industry, we narrowed down a feature set for the PS200 that is simple but flexible. The PS200 is slightly more powerful than the PS170 and differs a bit in its feature set. And, since impedance matching is done internally, you never have to worry about speaker impedance-just plug in and play. The PS200 features two ¼” speaker outputs, allowing you to run multiple cabinets. Think of the PS200 as having one large sweet spot. So, from bedroom shredding to arena rocking, your tone will stay consistent without any loss in depth or warmth. The PS200, however, has a rich tone throughout the entire volume range. The PS200 has a beautiful warmth and smoothness that will give you all the dimension and organic feel of a great tube amp.Īnother challenge when using a tube amp is that they tend to have a certain “sweet spot” that you can only achieve at higher volumes. But don’t get confused-crystal-clear power does not mean sterile or lacking in depth. The PowerStage 200 addresses these concerns by providing you with 200 watts of crystal-clear power. Moreover, if you use modelers like a Kemper, Helix, or Axe FX, any unwanted distortion can ruin your carefully crafted patches. Many tube amps break up too early, making it difficult to dial in a pristine, clean platform for your pedals (especially at higher volumes). Moreover, the size of the PS200 makes fly dates a breeze and saves you money on cartage fees.Ī clean (headroom) guitar amp is the best solution if you want to get the most from your pedals and modeling gear. A tube amp of similar power and wattage would require a second trip to your van and its own flight case. The width of the PS200 is about a thumb width larger than two standard pedals. Like the PS170, we wanted to build a powerful pedal amp voiced specifically for guitar that players could mount directly on their pedalboard or toss in their gig bag. Loud enough to match your drummer and fill a venue of just about any size, the PowerStage 200 provides clean, reliable amplification, and tons of headroom to let your pedals or modeler shine. Compact, clean, organic, and reliable power sits at the core of PowerStage family-once again, the PS200 delivers on that promise. Like the PowerStage 170 and 700, the PowerStage 200 retains the hallmark characteristics of the PowerStage family-providing a platform that brings out the best qualities of your tone. It has all the features you need-reliability, clean power, switchable EQ, speaker simulation, Aux In, and headphone connectivity. The PS200 was created specifically for players who get their tone from modeling devices, stompboxes, or a combination of the two. PowerStage 200 is a compact 200-watt “pedal-sized” guitar amp designed for players looking for a powerful grab-and-go pedal amp for any gig, rehearsal, or studio session. Walmart had been doing this for decades - pushing down the price of paper towels, toothbrushes, avocados and now robotic monkeys in order to sell as many as possible.īack in Montreal, the WowWee executives debated the price cut it would mean sacrificing significant profit on each monkey. Most stock quote data provided by BATS. Drop $5 from the price and Walmart would buy as many as 10 times more Fingerlings. WowWee had originally planned on selling the Fingerling for $20, but the giant retailer was insistent: About $15 was the magic number. Walmart was sold almost instantly on the toy’s appeal, but the price was a problem. Wiseman flew to Bentonville to pitch the Fingerlings. WowWee’s wooing of Walmart began in June 2016 when Ms. “It’s such an art and a science,’’ she said. Kehoe views even a wacky toy like the Fingerling through the lens of a retailer with troves of data on what customers are willing to buy, and at what price. But it is sales potential, not emotion, that drives her decisions. “This monkey creates an emotional connection right in front of your face,” Ms. Kehoe knew right away that the Fingerling would be a hit. She plays a big role in determining what millions of children will get for Christmas. (Toys “R” Us filed for bankruptcy in September.) The rise of social media - where toys can be instantly validated or just as quickly panned - has raised the stakes for companies like WowWee.Īnne Marie Kehoe, the high-ranking toy executive, is Walmart’s real-life Santa Claus. Yanofsky has watched as the industry consolidated and retailers struggled. The brothers eventually bought back their business, then sold it to another public company and then took it private again. Yanofsky said that the toy giant hadn’t been willing to take the risks he wanted, but that they had parted amicably. After some early success, Hasbro bought their business in 1999, and the brothers were incorporated into Hasbro. The Yanofsky brothers started developing toys in the 1980s. “If I thought I could sell it, I would buy it,” he said. He used to buy items from wholesalers in the old part of Montreal and resell them out of the trunk of his car to retailers at a markup. “When the toy business is good, it is really fun,” said Richard Yanofsky, 59, after parking his Tesla outside the deli one afternoon. Whenever possible, staff engineers, designers and executives sit down and have lunch together, often at an old-style deli known for its smoked meat sandwiches and matzo ball soup. But whether by design or happenstance, there is no question that scarcity fuels a toy’s mystique. WowWee says it did not intentionally create the shortage. While the monkeys are the core of the Fingerlings brand, WowWee also sells sloth and unicorn versions - one of which was listed on eBay for $5,000. This past week, Fingerlings were out of stock on Walmart’s website, while parents complained that they had been snookered into buying counterfeits from sellers on Amazon and other sites. “We move as a country faster from one thing to the next.”Ĭultivating the success of a hot toy carries its own risks, including managing supply. “The life of an item is a little rockier” than it used to be, said Anne Marie Kehoe, the Walmart vice president who runs the retailer’s toy division in the United States. The average life span of a toy fad is about eight months from its launch until it’s marked down, said Richard Gottlieb, an analyst and publisher of Global Toy News. Global toy sales have been growing each year, but at a slower pace than video games. The $84 billion global toy industry is struggling for the attention of children obsessed with smartphones and tablets. In Table 1 we present a highly abbreviated list of relative standard uncertainties u r of the physical and chemical fundamental constants most commonly used based on the 20 adjustments, respectively. To date, more than 200 experiments have been performed to precisely determine the value of G, with the latest value recommended by the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA), named CODATA 2014, having a relative standard uncertainty of 4.7 × 10 −5 in 2016. However, the measurement precision of the gravitational constant has been improved by only about two orders of magnitude in the past two centuries. As is well known, G is one of the earliest fundamental constants introduced by human beings, and it plays a significant role in the fields of theoretical physics, geophysics, astrophysics and astronomy. The strength of this force is defined by the constant of proportionality G, which is called the gravitational constant. This equation describes the attractive force between the two masses M and m separated by the distance r. In this paper we briefly review the history of the G measurement, and introduce eleven values of G adopted in CODATA 2014 after 2000 and our latest two values published in 2018 using two independent methods. This uncertainty is the smallest compared with previous CODATA recommended values of G however, it remains a relatively large uncertainty among other fundamental physical constants. Over the past two decades, eleven precision measurements of the gravitational constant have been performed, and the latest recommended value for G published by the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) is (6.674 08 ± 0.000 31) × 10 −11 m 3 kg −1 s −2 with a relative uncertainty of 47 parts per million. Although G was the first physical constant to be introduced in the history of science, it is considered to be one of the most difficult to measure accurately so far. The Newtonian gravitational constant G, which is one of the most important fundamental physical constants in nature, plays a significant role in the fields of theoretical physics, geophysics, astrophysics and astronomy. Check it out in this example:Īs the Canvas zooms in, you'll notice a "pop" where the image quality and banding seems to improve. Sometimes while you work on a 16bit file in Photoshop, you'll notice a weird visual artefact as you zoom in and out. Thankfully, once we have made this change the setting will stay this way. This will then open another settings dialog where you'll see the "Depth" setting and can change it to 16 bits/Channel. You want to click the white underlined text at the bottom. The Camera Raw dialog window will appear. To do this, open a RAW file by dragging it into Photoshop or go to File->Open. It doesn't replace the benefits of using a 16bit source file, but it's a good step!įor some unknown reason, Adobe don't import RAW files as 16bit documents by default! From a professional standpoint this is nuts, but luckily we can change the setting easily and it will remain set correctly! Simply head to Image -> Mode -> 16bit, to convert your Photoshop document to a 16 bit file.īy doing this this at the start of your work, any edits you make to images in this document will have the benefit of 16bit colour. However, you can gain most of the benefits of working in 16bit simply by converting your Photoshop documents to 16bit at the very beginning of your work! However, JPG files don't support 16bit and most 16bit formats are big. Ideally, we could work with 16bit source files all the time. Yes, while that is true, the problem is that often in our art, we are only using a small sub-set of colours and often with a gradient, this is where you will notice the limitations the most.Īs you can see in the image below, the gradient in the sky becomes heavily degraded when we use 8bit. If you're interested in understanding more about the above, check out the Wikipedia page on colour depth. Let's first outline 2 facts: 8 Bit colour has 256 shades of Red, Green and Blue for a total of 16,777,216 colours (256x256x256) 16 bit colour has a whopping 65,536 per channel! That means a total of… a lot. If you have a little understanding of bit depth you might think that, since a jpg file is only 8 bit, there's no benefit to working in 16 bit if you're saving your image as a jpg. Instead, I want to show you the benefits of working in 16bit. I don't want to get too technical in this article as you'll find plenty of information online about it. Bit depth refers to the number of variations of a single colour (Red/Green/Blue) which can exist in your image. |
